Lord Subrahmanya Swamy is the second son of Parvati. He is the younger brother to Ganesha. Skanda Panchami is the day on which he was born.

The peacock is his vehicle. He is worshipped in the form of snakes as well.

Lord Subrahmanya Swamy is known as Skanda because he is the one who leads the army of the Gods.

Muruga is a popular deity in almost all Hindu families and more so in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
