The Navaratri meaning Festival of Nine Nights, much popular in Gujarat and many parts of India is the festival of Goddess Durga. In Bengal, the festival is celebrated as Durga Pooja (Remember the Kali Temple at Kolkata?). The Tenth Day of the festival is celebrated as Vijaya Dasami or Vijaya Dashami.
Pooja is offered to the deities - Saraswati (Goddess of learning and speech), Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth and prosperity), and Durga (Goddess of strength and courage) in various forms during the festival period.
On Dassera, people worship the tools of their trade in the hope that Devi empowers them with Her grace. This year, the festival is celebrated on October 12/13, 2005. (The exact dates of the Navarathri differs from region to region. Please refer to your Panchangam or Local Calender for exact date and time)
May Goddess Durga shower Her blessing on you all.
