Among all Hindu months, Maghamasam is considered to be the most one and liked by Lord Sri Lakshminarayana and Lord Umamaheswara. Maghamasam means Aghamu means sin. It will not create sins during this Maghamasam because it ward off sins of the living creatures on the earth. According to ancient texts, during this month natives have to take bath in well water well before Sun rise.
During this Maghamasam, it is said that who take bath in Prayaga will not have next birth. However, in any river that Ganga water flows, it gives the same result. It is further said that those who take bath in Kasi will get hundred times of benefits. During this month, Sundays are more important. By offering prayers to Lord Suryanarayana Swamy will get rid of health problems, wealth and charming. One has to recite the following 'Mitrayanamaha, Ravayenamaha, Suryanarayananamaha, Bhanavenamaha, Khaganamaha, Pooshtenamaha, Hiranyagrabhayanamaha, mureechinenamaha, Adityayanamaha, Arkyanamaha, Pavitreyanamaha, Bhaskarayanamah' and offer Pongali as Naividyam. By donating black grams during this month will benefit a lost. During the end of Maghamasam, natives have to donate rice to a temple priest.
This is an important day during the month. One has to take bath before sun rise and offer prayers to Lord Sri Suryanarayana Swamy and recite the following:
Yudhya Janmakrutam papam mayasaptama janmasu
tanmerogam ch sokam ch maakareehastu saptamee
etajnmakrutam papam yucchajanmantararitajame
manovaakkayajam yuchhhgyatagnate chaye punaha
iti sapatavidham papamam snanne sapapatake
saptavyadhi samyuktakm haraamaakari – saptami'
It is to be remembered that Bheeshamcharylu who gave Vishnu Shashranamavali to the world has waited for the lost breath for this day. It shows the importance of the day. On this day, Bheeshamcharylu lost his breath in the presence of Lord Sri Krishna.
After the demise of Bheeshma, the first Ekadasi. On this day, people observe fasting, offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. Those who desires to have moksha should offer prayers to Sri Mahavishnu.
On this it is advised to offer japa to Lord Sani and perform homam and donate black grams to those who are suffering from the adverse effects of Sani. Natives under the grip of Sade Sani, Ardhastama Sani, Astama Sani, natives of Simha, Kanya, Karakataka Rasi and natives undergoing ardhastama Sani, Sani Mahadasa or antardasa are advised to offer black color dress along with black grams with dakshina to a temple priest on this day to ward off negative effect.
Those who do not have the opportunity to have Maghamasam bath regularly, at least on this day if they do so will get good benefits. The Japa, Tapa, Puja, Dana, Homas will give excellent results. Natives taking sea bath will have the blessings of Lord Srimannarayana. Donating black umbrella, chappals, dress materials will give good results.Officer prayers to Goddess Durga with kumkum puja will ward off negative effects. Natives suffering from various grahs will get relief by performing cow milk abishekam to Lord Shiva on this day.
On this day devotees have to observe fasting and awake through out the night by chanting Shiva stotra. Lord Shiva pleases this day and another important one is this day happens to be the birth star of Lord Vishnu falls. By performing Parvathi Kalyanam on this day, delayed marriages and marriage problems will ward off and speedy marriages will take place. Couples will have an excellent life. This day is an excellent one for those who want to please Lord Shiva.
