From Monday, the June 18, 2007, Maha Surya Yagam is being performed for 13 days at the famous Sri Suryarayana Swamy temple situated at Arasavalli in Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh. According to the Executive Officer, the yagam is being performed with the objective of purifying the minds and ensuring wellbeing of one and all.
The Yagam begins at 8.30am to noon and again at 4.30pm to 7.00pm. Recitation of Vedic hymns and Upanishads, Dwadasa lingarchana etc., will be performed on all these 13 days. The natives who are undergoing Ravi mahadasa or antardasa or Astama Ravi, Ardhastama Ravi or Vaya Ravi and those natives suffering due to Ravi dosha are advised to participate in the yagam, a rare event to ward off the negative effects.
Couples can participate in the yagam by paying Rs. 3,006/-. Only 36 couples can participate in the yagam every day. Four 'yagasalas' viz., Devi yagasala, Rudra yagasala, Surya yagasala and Pradhana yagasala were set up for the purpose.
