Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Ammavari Margasiramasa Festivals

Goddess Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Ammavaru is the presiding deity for the people of Visakhapatnam and North Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The deity of Ammavaru is unlike other deities in temples will not have any Gopuram and is open. According to sources, Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Ammavaru is the goddess of Rajas of Visakha and is situated in Visakha Raja's Burujupeta and that is the reason why, the place is called as Burujupeta. According to texts, nearly more than one hundred years, this place is a small one in Visakhapatnam and Burujupeta where Ammavaru deity is situated is a narrow one. Even now, the place is same as old one. During the year 1912, when expansion of the place took place, the deity is in the middle of the place. After sometime, the municipal authorities during expansion of the road, moved the deity to some place. During 1917, this area is affected with Plague and death toll rises and the people were shocked. The people believed that due to change of the deity, all this happens and offered prayers to Goddess. People offered prayers and homas to please the goddess. There is priest in the temple and the devotee can directly break a coconut, offer Pasupu and Kumkum. This is the speciality of the temple.
