Polala Amavasya

Historically speaking, Amavasya day is always considered a day that every one needs to be of abundant caution. Needless to say, not many people venture to start anything new on the eve of Amavasya. However, there is one festival, or rather pooja, that is specially performed on an amavasya day called the Polala Amavasya.

According to vrata texts, by performing this vrata one can safe guard their children from the clutches of death. Every year, offering prayers to Poleramma coincides on the Amavasya day and hence the vrata is called Polala Amavasya.
