The penumbral lunar eclipse will occur on August 6, 2009. This will be a shallow one with a magnitude of only 0.402. The eclipse will be completely visible over Africa and Europe and South America. It could be seen rising over eastern North America and setting over Asia. Therefore, there could be no trepidation on account of successive occurrences of eclipses.
The eclipse occurs in the month of Sravana masam on the day of Poornima with Sravana star in Makara Rasi. It begins in the wee hours on August 6, 2009 at 4.37am and ends at 7.49am (IST). Due to this lunar eclipse, natives of Makara Rasi and with the stars of Sravanam, Rohini and Hasta are advised to take up remedial measures. This eclipse is visible in America, Europe, Africa and West Asia.

During the period of eclipse, it is advised that the natives should not take any food nor sleep. Carrying women should not see the eclipse as they may have negative impact on the baby in the womb. The remedial measures are not required for elderly persons, patients and babies. Those natives of Janma Nakshtra or Janma Rasi or Janma Lagna on which the eclipse falls, are specially advised not to see the eclipse and take bath immediately after the eclipse begins and perform japa and offer pujas to family deity. After the end of the eclipse, they are advised to take bath and offer donations to the priests.
